476 civil service classes the Lower Division Examinations Lower Division Clerks are eligible for Outport Clerkships and will probably secure very large proportion of these appointments Β -BOY CLERKSHIPS See page 72 01 arrangements that are common to all Classes in Division Competitions for Boy Clerkships are held at irregular intervals of four to seven months Courses of preparation divided into periods of nine weeks begin four or five weeks after each examination Candidates for Boy Clerkships who join for one evening week attend on Friday The instruction given on thi evening constitutes complete course of preparation for the Boy Clerks' examination Unless their time for preparation is very limited candidates are however recommended to attend on Mondays and Fridays Those who require practice in more elementary work and those who desire to prepare at the same time for the situation of Boy Copyist or Telegraph Learner should attend on Thursday also The General Classes meet from 45 to 45 on Thursday 20 to 50 but it is generally advisable to attend at as there are short Special Classes at this hour free to all Students Fees -One evening per week One period of nine weeks £1 two £1 16 Two evenings per week One period £1 13s two £3 0s Three evenings per week One period £2 As two £4 0s Students can join the Class month after the beginning of each period for the remainder of that period and the whole of the next for one and half times the single period fee As the competition for men Clerkships is so severe no un necessary interval should elapse after ceasing to prepare for Boy Clerkship and before joining the Men Clerks' Class Students can if necessary be transferred to the Men Clerks' Class before the expirat on of their fee and proportionate period of attendance will be allowed
