302 MEDICAL DEPARTMENT No Student shall be permitted to hold two offices at the Hospital at the same time No Student shall be allowed to fill the office of Clinical Clerk or Dresser to Physician or Surgeon to ln-patients unless he shall have previouslv passed the Primary Exami- nation at the Royal College of Surgeons The Examination shall be conducted on the first and second days by viva voce questioning and on the third day by written papers No one who does not pass the viva voce shall be admitted to the written examination The selection shall alwavs be according to merit at these examinations the manner in which previous offices have been filled being also considered but in case of equality the election shall be according to seniority on the Hospital Register Special Certificates will be given to each Student who shall have filled any office in King's College Hospital to the satis faction of the Medical Officer or Officers under whom he may have served Application for such certificates must be made to the Dean on the expiration of the period of service No Student shall receive certificate who has not attended regularly during the entire six months of his appointment except the Clerks to the Physicians for Diseases of Women and Children and Physicians-Accoucheur who shall sever- ally remain in office fv three months only If from any cause any gentleman shall be obliged to resign his appointment he shall immediately give notice in writing both to the Dean of the Medical Department and to the Secretary of the Hospital If any Resident Medical Officer or his Assistant be pre- vented temporarily from attending to his duty he shall apply for leave of absence to the Hospital Committee in writing in sufficient time to enable them to consider the same at their next ensuing meeting If the emergency of the case is so pressing as to prevent this being done the reasons for which must be stated in the application the Secretary of the Hospital is authorised to act upon it and report it to the
