1 APPLIED SCIENCES Students in their Second Term are instructed in turning Soft and Hard Woods and other substances and also in the mode of preparing and fixing the work in the Lathe thej are thus enabled to proceed with set of exercises specially designed with view to the attainment of skill in banc turning After having obtained proficiency in the use of the tools Students are instructed in making Models in which th preceding exercises are combined and which will also include the construction of Patterns and Core-boxes ready to moulded from in the Foundry III Second Year Students are divided into Classes at th commencement of Michaelmas Term and are instructed Metal work and Moulding In the Fitiing-Shop they through course of exercises in chipping and filing an getting up plane surfaces by the Whitworth method and ii the Foundry they are instructed in the arts of moulding am of casting in iron and in brass In the Lent Term Second Year Students will be agaii divided for instruction in Smith's work which will be givei alternately with specified set of Exercises in Metal-turnin and Machine-tool work commencing with the use of hand turning tools and screw-chasing tools In Easter Term Students areinstructed in the art of workup in Sheet Metals and Soldering and after having attained work manlike proficiency in all the above branches of handicraf to the satisfaction of the Superintendent they are permitte to enter upon the construction of complete machines draw ings and patterns of which are provided for the use Students IV Third Year Students continue the Construction of th machines which they have already commenced at the termi nation of their Second Year and may proceed with Models illustration of the different contrivances used in Practica Mechanics and Manufactures and in experiments on th strength of material and of structures such as arches beams and girders designed drawn and executed by the Student themselves
