192 APPLIED SCIENCES Each Student must on entering this Class provide himself with Lens Camera Dark Slides and Camera Stand Arrangements have been made with Messrs Swift and Son Tortenham Court Road to supply these items of thoroughly good kind at Ā£3 3s for each set Should any Student on leaving the Department not wish to retain these articles the College will take them back at fair valuation The fee for private instruction for the Course is 5s inclusive of Chemicals the number of lessons being regu- lated as under Student Students Students Students For fee of 13 10s private Student is entitled to attend ance at Lectures and to the use of chemicals apparatus &c for three terms 12 Fine Art Established by aid of the City and Guilds Institute The Classes in Fine Art and Freehand Drawing are open to Students at such hours as shall be arranged with the Pro fessor but they form no part of the prescribed Course of Study in this Department and extra fees have to be paid for them see page 205 Individual Instruction is given to Students in various branches of Fine Art such as Drawing from the Flat and from the Antique Monochrome Drawing on Wood Painting on China Etching the application of Plant and other Natural forms to Decoration and General Designing This School is established to meet some of those serious deficiencies in Modern Art Education which have long hindered the elevation of popular taste and have compelled Art Manufacturers and Publishers to employ foreign artists and workmen The demand for better class of Art lessons of hours each 10 12
