REPORT 87 The following have been elected Fellows during the past year Samuel Eawson Gardiner For fourteen years Lecturer and Professor of Modern History William Alfred Gill Fellow of Magdalen College Cambridge and for six years Lecturer in Classics Hutchinson Royes Bell Formerly Student and for eighteen years one of the Surgical Staff of the Hospital John Cox Edghill Formerly Student in the Theological Department and now Chaplain-General of the Army William Cayley Lond Formerly Student now Lecturer in Medicine and Senior Physician to the Middlesex Hospital William Henry Preece Formerly pupil of King's College School Now Electrician to the General Post Office and Consulting Engineer to the Crown Colonies Nector Isidore Charles Tirard Formerly Student and for seven years Medical Tutor Now Professor of Materia Medica Sir Henry Pitman has been obliged to resign his place on the Council in consequence of the increasing pressure of other engagements The Council much regret his loss and must record their thanks for the valuable help he has ren- dered them In conclusion the Council are sorry to have to report that in consequence of the diminution in numbers in the School and one or two other Departments there is deficiency on the Balance of the year of Ā£2 052 88 3d For the purpose of in some measure meeting this deficiency the Council have felt obliged though most reluctantly to impose charge of per cent on the incomes of all members of the Staff The College has no doubt been suffering in some degree in com- mon with many other institutions and interests from the
