CIVIL SERVICE CLASSES 481 Second Class Clerkships India Office -The limits "of age for these clerkships are 17 and 20 The salaries are £80 £90 £100 for the first three years rising afterwards by triennial increments of £25 to £250 Customs Outport Clerkships -The term Outport is applied to all the Ports of the United Kingdom where there is Customs Establishment excepting London alone These appointments are in future to be filled partly by examinations limited to outdoor Officers of Customs see page 487 and partly by open examinations The limits of age for the 3pen examinations are 17 and 20 Second Class Clerks rise From £70 by £5 annually for Four Years then by £10 to £200 Many Second Class Clerks have special allowances η addition to the above service salary They are eligible or promotion without examination to- First Class Jlerkships £220-£15-£400 and Outport Collectorships £200-£1 200 As open competitions will' not be frequent md the Clerkships filled by them not numerous success may 1e delayed even though it may be certain Candidates are herefore advised meantime to take the Lower Division examinations Lower Division Clerks are eligible for utport Clerkships and will probably secure very large roportion of these appointments III EXCISE APPOINTMENTS MR WALKE Courses of preparation of about 17 weeks' duration begin January and July and continue until about the middle of lay and November respectively The Class meets through- ut the course on Tuesdays from to 45 and for six reeks towards the end on Thursdays also from to 45 Fees payable in advance for the whole course 3s for the second period beginning about weeks after fi Li
