448 WORKSHOP EVENING CLASSES IRON WORK The use of the Hammer and Chisel the File and Scraping Tools to produce Surface the Whitworth method Fit ting Gear Work and General Machinery the use of the Screw Cutting Lathe and Planing Machine Students arc encouraged to make for themselves Lathes and small Engines up to five or seven inches diameter of Cylinder They are alsc made acquainted with the construction of modern Land and Marine Engines and the practical use of the Indicator SMITH WORK Students are taught to make and temper Chisels Drills and Turning tools to weld Iron and Steel and to produce light forgings This shop is provided with two Forges and well-selected stock of Tools CASTING IN BRASS AND IRON The Foundry is furnished with Cupola two Brass Furnaces two Drying-stones and other suitable appointments for complete course of instruction in Foundry work and for producing the lighter class cf Castings The Classes are conducted by Mr David Walker Super intendent of the College Workshop who has had fifteen years' practical experience as Foreman in the employ 01 Messrs Maudsley Sons and Field He is assisted by skilled workmen in each department The hours of attendance are from 30 to on Tuesday and Thursday evenings Fee £2 2s per term of about twelve weeks payable in advance in the College office Further information may be obtained from the Superin- tendent at the Workshop CLOTHWORKERS' PRIZES Prize of £5 in Books for Metal Work and similar Prize for Wood-work is given every year by the Cloth-
