department for ladies 357 ITALIAN By Perini Professor of Italian Literature at King's College Advanced Class In this Class the Students speak Italian Italian Literature Friday 12 11 In the course of the year the following books will be read Poetry Dante's La Divina Commedia" "II Purgatorio" and parts of II Paradiso" Manzoni's Adelchi and Leopardi's Poesie Prose Grosses Marco Visconti and Azeglio's "I Miei Ricordi Italian Composition Exercises from Perini's "Italian Conversation Gram- mar" Hachette Written translations into Italian from Perini's Extracts in English Prose and "The Bridge Hachette Optional Short Italian Compositions and Letters to be corrected by the Lecturer out of class and returned to the Students Every Third Lecture will be devoted to reciting by heart and reading select passages in poetry from Dante to Manzoni Intermediate Class Friday 12 The Books read in this Class are Prose Manzoni's Promessi Sposi Poetry Portions of Metastasio which are to be translated into English at sight with the help of the Lecturer Grammar Exercises from Perini's Italian Conversation Grammar Hachette The Students in this Class are encouraged to speak Italian and to write translations from Perini's Extracts iu English Prose Hachette
