THE SCHOOL 473 If in the Examination the son of Freeman of the Salters' Company shall be found of equal merit with any other Candidate such son of Freeman shall have the preference Each Exhibitioner must matriculate within twelve months after the award at Oxford Cambridge London or Durham and failing his so doing the Exhibition will be forfeited and again thrown open to competition Payment of the half-year's Exhibition due will be made on application at the Clerk's office any day after the 8th of January and 8th of July in each year Before payment of the allowance each half-year Cer tificate must be produced to the Court of the Company from the Tutor or other authority of the College to which the Exhibitioner belongs that he has duly conformed to he regulations thereof In case the Exhibition is held at the University of London the several payments will be made only on the production of Certificates or other proof of the Exhibitioner having passed the following Examinations viz The Matriculation Examination The First Examina- tion of Candidates for Degree The Final Examination for Degree The following Regulation established by the Court applies to this Exhibition viz That one of the conditions upon which the Scholar at any University or College shall hold his Exhibi- tion and receive the advantages arising therefrom shall be That during the whole of the time he shall continue at the University or College in which he may have matriculated or entered he shall well and properly conduct himself thereat and shall with due diligence pursue his studies for the purpose of qualifying himself to graduate at the University to which he belongs with honour to the founders of the Exhibition and credit to himself and the School from which he proceeds
