290 MEDICAL DEPARTMENT 1879 Menko Albert Ernest 1880 McMillan Walter George 1881 Herroun Edward Felix 1882 Jackson Herbert 1883 Eiloart Arnold Two Exhibitions are given annually one of £60 and one of £40 out of the interest accruing from the legacy left to the College by the late Thomas Godfrey Sambrooke Esq The Examination is held in October and the Exhibitions are open to all Matriculated Students at the commencement of either their Preliminary Science or Medical course but any Student who joins the College in the preceding Summer Session may compete The following are the subjects of examination Compulsory An English Essay Mathematics Arithmetic -The ordinary rules Vulgar and Decimal Fractions Extraction of the Square Root Algebra -Addition Subtraction Multiplication and Division of Algebraical Quan- tities Proportion Arithmetical and Geometrical Progression Simple Equations Geometry -The first four books of Euclid or the subjects thereof Any two languages other than English If Latin Greek French or German are taken the following books will be selected for examin- ation in 1884 Latin -Cicero de Amicitia with Oration against Catiline
