138 GENERAL LITERATURE AND SCIENCE both in Prose and Verse Besides the work which is done ii the Lecture Room the Students are expected to prepare given portion of Roman and Greek History for each College Examination as well as an additional Classical subject Lectures will be given by Professor Warr on Greek Literature in the Michaelmas Term on Roman History in the Lent Term and on Oriental History in the Easter Term with special reference to the monuments in the British Museum Lectures will be given and papers periodically set by Mr Gill on Greek and Latin Philology and Grammar Assistance will be given by Lessons and Questions to Candidates for the Examinations for the London University Degree The Classical Mathematical English and other Lectures in this Department comprise all the subjects required for the Indian Civil Service Examination Candidates for this Examination will receive such advice and direction as they may require in their work from Professor Warr The Students are divided into four Divisions according to their proficiency and in these Divisions they are arranged in order of merit at each examination Surjects for Lectures 1884-85 The Subjects appointed to be read for the Matriculation Intermediate in Arts and Examinations at the Uni- versity of London viz Matriculation January 1885 Virgil Georgics IV andiEneid Homer Odyssey IX June 1885 Caesar de Bello Gallico VI Xenophon Hell II Intermediate in Arts July 1885 Tacitus Annals VI Horace Satires Homer Iliad XVIII
