REPORT 87 This result is due to the diminution of fees in two important Departments and to an increase in general expenses The Council however trust that both these causes were exceptional and that they will cease to operate in the present year The Report which the Council have the honour to present is perhaps happy in this-that it has to dwell upon no special events during the past year but simply to record quiet and steady progress in the important and constantly increas- ing work of the College Whatever new developments either of that work or of the constitution under which it is carried on may take place to meet new practical requirements the old principles and tone of the College will they trust always be preserved as being those in which under God5s blessing lies the secret of true usefulness and prosperity
