8 REPORT have decided even with this sum to venture so far as can be safely done on the purchase of suitable premises and the incorporation of the Classes with the general system of the College But as yet no such premises have been found and no practical step has therefore been taken The Council are however glad to remark that the educational work itself is already in full and efficient operation in much the same form as that which it is hoped that it will ere long assume permanently as an integral Department of the College During the past year they have had to regret the loss by death of three old members of their own body-the Earl of Harrowby one of the earliest friends and supporters of the College Sir Thomas Watson one of the first and most distinguished of the Staff of the College whose advice and assistance were for many years of the greatest value to the Council especially on medical questions and Robert Hudson Esq who had long taken an active part in the conduct of its practical business The following have been elected Fellows of this College since the last report Robert Shingleton Smith Formerly Senior Scholar Medical Department and now Physician to the Bristol Infirmary Richard Phene Spiers Formerly Student and now Master of the Architectural School at the Royal Academy Walter Besant Formerly Student Secretary of the Palestine Exploration Fund Samuel Cheetham For twenty years Professor of Pastoral Theology and now Archdeacon of Rochester It may be well to mention here that all Honorary Fellows elected before the passing of the new Act of Parliament have now become Fellows of King's College London and that all Fellows have become Members of the Corporation In respect of the financial position of the College the Council have to report that the receipts have only just met the expenditure leaving no surplus for the extinction of debt
