REPORT 79 -The Civil Service Classes have again largely in- creased and the Council have thought it right to organise them into separate Department with regular Board under Mr Braginton as Dean The experiment of Female Classes has been eminently successful and no difficulties in the practical working them have been experienced -The numbers of The School in the Lent Term were not so large as at the time of the last Report but have risen in the present Term by about 25 boys That the work has fully maintained its high standard is obvious from the list of honours here subjoined In this list the Council have the pleasure of especially noting that an open Scholarship at Balliol College Oxford has been for the first time gained by boy of the School and that in the University Board's Examination the School gained 30 certificates-a number greater than that gained by any other school except Eton which had 31 -and that in the distinctions gained the School stood highest of all the Schools in England LIST OF HONOURS GAINED DURING THE YEAR 1882-83 oxford and cambridge Oxford Dicey Albert Venn Late Fellow of Trinity College Elected to Vinerian Professorship of English Law L0N Ε Magdalen College First Class in Classics Moderations Long Ε Proximeaccessit Gaisford Prize for Greek Prose Composition
