REPORT 77 previously from ill-health and had been elected Professor Emeritus and Fellow of the College -In the Department of Engineering and Applied Sciences the number of Matriculated Students is now 91 showing an increase of 22 since last year's Report and being the largest number ever recorded in this Department There has also been large increase in the number of occasional Students for such subjects taught in this Department as form suitable course of study for Electrical Engineering Students In the Wheatstone Laboratory Professor Adams has carried on with the aid of Mr Tomlinson course of practical work in Electrical testing and measurement bearing upon Telegraphy and Electrical Engineering In the Wheatstone Laboratory the number of Students has largely increased There are here working 17 Third Year Students of the Applied Science Department besides Class of 10 Students preparing for the Sc and Prel Sc examinations of the Universitity of London and about 40 other occasional Students most of whom are preparing to enter on the profession of Electrical Engineering In this Department arrangements have been made which it is hoped will secure the efficient use of the Testing Machine presented by the Worshipful Society of Clothworkers both for the instruction of the Students and for general work for the benefit of the College -1n the Medical Department the steady increase of Students which has been noticed during the last five years has not been maintained in the past year The total number of Matriculated Students is now 206 as against 210 last year This slight decline in numbers cannot be attributed to any deficiency in the teaching and conduct of the Department for most of the London Medical Schools have had similar experience In connection with the work of this Department the Council are informed that the Victoria University in Manchester has recently obtained Supplementary Charter for the granting of
