CIVIL SERVICE CLASSES 495 Book recommended -For English Composition Abbott's How to Write Clearly Seeley Is 6d Hours of attendance -On Friday evenings from 45 to 845 Two meetings per period are devoted to Higher Arithmetic' including Stocks Cube Boot Profit and Loss &c Arithmetic is taught at every meeting Fees -£1 5s per period of nine weeks or lessons or £2 2s for two periods Students can join on any Class evening but fees are always dated from the first meeting of the period then current those joining late in any period will find it advantageous to join for two periods as the larger fee will admit them for the rumainder of the current period and the whole of the next and the rate per lesson will not then be much in excess of the rate charged in the smaller fee Members of the Class successful before the expiration of their fee can have refunded the part unexpired when the result of the Examination is declared fees are not returned under any other circumstances Subjects of Examination -Handwriting highest marks attainable 400 Orthography 400 Arithmetic 300 Tots 100 English Composition 200 Geography 200 Copying Manuscript 200 Inquiries respecting this class should be addressed to the Secretary King's College or to Mr Walke Albeit Road Queen's Road Peckham Boy Clerkships -Limits of age 15 and 17 Rate of pay 14s per week rising Is per week per year Boy Clerks are not retained as such after the age of 19 but they are eligible after two years' service or if 17 before appointed after one years' service to compete among themselves for Men Clerkships They are also eligible for the Open Competitions for Men Clerkships at any time if between 17 and 20 the prescribed limits of age Office hours generally 10 to Holidays with pay generally month per year in addition to the Bank Holidays etc Examm tions are held at intervals varying from four to seven months
