APPLIED SCIENCES 199 Machines which they have already commenced at the termi- nation of their Second Year and may proceed with Models in illustration of the different contrivances used in Practical Mechanics and Manufactures and in experiments on the strength of material and of structures such as arches beams and girders designed drawn and executed by the Students themselves Permission is given at the discretion of the Superintendent to Third Year Students to bring in work of their own but it must be executed under the direction and according to the plans of the Superintendent At the termination of the year Prize is given in each year for general merit in the work done in the Shop during the preceding year and for the result of an examination in the book entitled "Workshop Appliances Longman's Series These prizes are determined by Prof esser Shelley and the Superintendent together VI Every Student is expected to furnish himself with set of the simplest tools requisite for working in wood and metals The Student may purchase his tools at the College and upon his leaving they will be repurchased from him at reduction depending on the condition in which they are returned The following is the Cost of the Tools which are generally considered to be necessary Set of Carpenter's Tools and Box -י י λ tit נ £ Set of Turnery Tools for Wood Iron hand 10 Set of Chisels and Files for Iron VII Students may obtain estimates of the Cost of the necessary materials from the Superintendent Detailed lists of these are kept in the Workshop and in the Secretary's Vlir No Matriculated Student can be admitted into the Workshop at any other hours than those mentioned in the office
