174 Λ MM 1γ SCIENCE III 9c 1avtmcnf of £ttgmrcrttta anir the ajjphctr Sciences including surveying μ an IIpactuhi no ah τ and TELEGIl aIMI Dean of the artmext for 1k83 Professor Adams Μ Δ The object in view in this Department is to provide system of general education practical in its nature lor young men who in alter life are likely to be engaged in commercial and agricultural pursuits or in professional employments such as Civil Engineering Telegraphy Surveying Architect ture and the higher branches of Manufacturing Art or who wish to prepare for the Whit won 11 Scholarships The whole course occupies three years and forms an ap propriate introduction to that kind of instruction which can only be obtained within the walls of the manufactory or by actually taking part in the labours of the Surveyor tl Engineer or the Architect Museums containing Mechanical and Physical Apparatus Chemical and Industrial products important and valuable collections of Models &c illustrating the subjects taught are open to the students Students who have passed the preliminary Examination for Cooper's Hill College may prepare at King' College London for the final examination for Civil Engineering appointments in India The following are the subjects of the dilfercit Lectun given in this Department with the names of the Professor and Tutors Divinity see page 176 Kev Barry Principal
