ANNUAL REPORT 71 Department of General Literature and Science has slightly increased in all the other departments and is on the whole 16 in advance of last year the number of Occasional Students has considerably increased in the Morning and diminished in the Evening Classes the number of boys in the School remains exactly the same 612 The whole number under instruction is less than at the time of the last Report The Special Classes held in the Evening in addition to the regular Evening Class System have been as follows Civil Service Male Classes 677 Female Classes 105 Workshop Evening Class 22 Classes in Practical Art 25 Gilbart Banking Lectures 230 Total 059 The Civil Service Classes have again largely increased from 500 to 782 -the increase being partly due to the creation of Female Classes the attendance at the Gilbart Banking Lectures has again slightly diminished and the other Classes remain just as before The whole number is 237 in advance of last year As the Council has now proposed to adopt as soon as sufficient funds have been raised for starting the work the Classes for Ladies at Kensington it may be well to note here that in these Classes which now include Classes in Holy Scripture and Church History Logic and Political Economy History Ancient and Modern English Latin Greek French German and Italian Language and Literature Arithmetic and Mathematics Chemistry Botany Physiology Harmony and Drawing there are now about 350 Students and that the work goes on with unabated vigour and success under the teaching of the Staff of King College and on the principles on which the College is founded
