MEDTCAL DEPARTMENT 317 Natural Philosophy Chemistry No one will be approved by the Ex- aminers unless he shows competent knowledge of these subjects This Examination is among those Preliminary Examinations of which some one must be passed by every Medical Student on commencing his profession Bachelor of Medicine Candidates for this Degree are required- To have passed the Matriculation Examination in this University To have passed the Preliminary Scientific Examination Candidates for the Degree of are strongly recommended by the Senate to pass the Preliminary Scientific Examination before commencing their regular Medical Studies To have been engaged in his professional studies during Four Years sub- sequently to Matriculation at one or more of the Medica Institutions or Schools recognised by this University One Year at least of the Four to have been spent in one or more of the recognised Institutions or Schools in the United Kingdom To pass two Examinations in Medicine Preliminary Scientific Examination The Preliminary Scientific Examination shall take place once in each year and shall commence on the third Monday in July Fee £5 No Candidate shall be admitted to this Examination unless he shall have passed the Matriculation Examination The subjects of examination will be Inorganic Chemistry Experimental Physics Botany and Vegetable Physiology Zoology and Practical Chemistry -Any Candidate shall be allowed if he give notice at the time of registration to postpone his examination in any one of the four subjects of the Examination from the Preliminary Scientific Examination at which he presents himself for examination in the remaining subjects until the Pre- liminary Scientific Examination in the next or any following year but no Candidate shall be admissible to the Examination for Honours unless he shall have passed the previous Pass Examination in all its subjects at the same time nor shall any Candidate who thus postpones his examination in one subject be admissible to the Intermediate Examination in Medicine until he has passed the examination in that subject Any candidate of not more than twenty-two years of age at the commence- ment of the Pass Examination who has passed the Preliminary Scientific Examination may be examined for Honours in Experimental Physics Chemistry Botany Zoology An Exhibition of £40 per annum for two years is given in each subject and in Experimental Physics the First and Second Candidates for Honours shall each receive Neil Arnott Bronze Medal Intermediate Examination in Medicine This Examination takes place on the last Monday in July each year Fee £5 Candidates must produce Certificates of having completed their nineteenth year of having passed the preliminary Scientific Examination at least one year previously and subsequently to having passed the Matriculation Examination studied at one or more recognised Medical Schools for two years Dissected
