142 general literature and science are sufficiently advanced to enable them to take advantage 01 the College classes The Principal and Professors have the power of sending back for time any who may be considered disqualified for admission The Mathematical subjects are Euclid Books II Arith- metic and Elementary Algebra including simple Equations The examination in Classics will be in Grammar and in passages to be translated from Standard Greek and Latin authors also an easy passage for translation from English into Latin prose II One Exhibition of £50 given out of the Sambrooke Trust and one of £20 given by Sir Freake Bart will be awarded to the Students who pass the best examination in Classics and Mathematics respectively on entering this Department in October 1882 provided they are under seven- teen years on October 1882 See page 157 III The regular work of the Term will begin on Thursday October Wednesday January 10 and Thursday April 12 on which days all old Students are required to be present at 10 unless special leave of absence is obtained beforehand from the Principal IV The Council require that Half-term's notice be given to the Secretary in writing of the removal of Student from the College This notice must be given before the close of the first half of the Term in which Student is to leave and if not so given the payment of ji Half-term Fees will be required In 1882-83 the Half-terms will end on November February 14 and May 12 The Students received into this Department are- Matriculated Students or those admitted to the regular and full prescribed course of study Each Candidate for Matriculation must produce testi- monial of good character from his last instructor and when
