annual report 57 of Students by his unwearied devotion and kindliness By his will they understand that he has left to the College £400 of Scinde Railway Stock for the foundation of Prize which will they rejoice to think perpetuate his memory in the Col- lege They have thought it best henceforward to unite the teaching of Mineralogy with that of Geology in the able hands of Professor Duncan as Professor and have had great pleasure in marking their sense of the Rev Wiltshire's valuable services to the College by appointing him Assistant Professor of the joint Subjects They have also to report the resignation of the Chair of Surveying by Professor Castle after service of forty-two years which has been made valuable by his great practical knowledge and experience and his constant interest in the work and the Students To fill the vacancy thus created the Council have appointed Mr Henry Robinson formerly Student of the College -The Medical Department still continues to exhibit very satisfactory increase in the number of Students The total number of Matriculated Students is now 210 against 185 in the last year and the number of new Students has risen from 54 to 66 So far as can be ascertained this year appears to have been both financially and in number of Students the most flourishing one since the opening of the Medical Department in the College The following distinctions may be mentioned as having been obtained by Students during the last year University of London At the Preliminary Scientific Examination Freeland John Honours in Botany At the First Examination Β rooks Walter Τ Honours in Materia Medica md Phar- maceutical Chemistry Norvill Frederic Η Honours in Anatomy
