annual REPORT 55 increased in the Theological General and Medical Depart- ments that it has diminished in the Department of Applied Sciences and slightly in the Evening Classes and has on the whole advanced by 21 the number of Occasional Students has increased both in the Morning Classes and Evening Classes and has advanced on the whole by 28 the number of boys in the School which was unusually high last year has diminished by 26 The whole number under instruction is now 23 in advance of 1879-80 and 66 in advance of 1878-9 To these are to be added the Special Classes held in the College viz Civil Service Classes 500 Gilbart Banking Lectures 275 Workshop Evening Class 22 Classes in Practical Art 20 Total 822 Among these the Civil Service Class has increased the others have diminished and the whole number now stands 159 below that of last year -The Theological Department has again slightly advanced and now stands at 79 of whom 61 belong to the Morning and 18 to the Evening Class-a number more than double that of five years ago Its work calls for no special remark the Principal being still able to report favourably upon it and again noting that of the 26 Students passing out during the past year the Examiners were able to place 11 in the First Class 11 in the Second and only in the Third Its steady advance in numbers against constantly increasing competition shows that it more than maintains its place in public estimation and confidence In connexion with this Department and the Department of General Literature and Science the Council have to report
