CIVIL SERVICE CLASSES 413 Inquiries respecting this class should be addressed to Mr Walke 23 Heaton Road Peckham Rye Boy Clerks Limits of age 15 and 17 Salary begins at 14s per week and rises Is per week per year Boy Clerks are not retained as such after the age of 19 but they are eligible after two years' service or if 17 before appointed after one years' service to compete among themselves for certain number of Men Clerkships They are also eligible for the Open Competitions for Men Clerkships at any time if between 17 and 20 the prescribed limits of age Office hours generally 10 to Holidays with pay generally month per year in addition to the Bank Holidays etc Examinations are held at intervals varying from four to six months Boy Clerks are excused the Preliminary Examination for Men Clerkships They thus save the fee charged by the Civil Service Commissioners for the Preliminary Examina- tion and are enabled to devote their entire attention to the Final Examination they can also give more time to the special subjects of the latter examination as by studying for Boy Clerkships they have rendered themselves more or less proficient in the elementary subjects Boy Copyists are therefore strongly advised to press on for Boy Clerkships Boy Copyists -Limits of age 14 and 18 Rate of pay 4d per hour The attention of Boy Copyists is directed to the preceding paragraph Men Copyists -Candidates may be of any age over 18 Rate of pay lQd per hour Examinations for Men and Boy Copyists are held at intervals of about three or four months As the Civil Service Commissioners give only few days notice of the Examina- tions Candidates should not delay their preparation until an Examination is announced Hours of employment from six to seven hours per day Holidays with pay fortnight per year in addition to the Bank Holidays etc
