380 WORKSHOP EVENING CLASSES III WORKSHOP EVENING CLASSES FOR PRACTICAL INSTRUCTION IN WOOD AND IRON WORK As applied to Building and Engineering Construction The College Workshop will be found to afford every facility for complete course of Engineering work especially adapted for pupils in Engineers' offices for Gentlemen pre- paring for Colonial Life for intending competitors for the Whitworth Scholarships The Shop is provided with Engine and Shafting and the Lathes Planing and Drilling Machines are driven by Steam power Λ iV ץ The Course will include CARPENTRY The proper use of Tools and their adjustment making Scartj Mortice and Dovetail Joints the principles of Frame- Work the Construction of model Hoofs and Bridges and of Moulders' Patterns for General Machinery and Wheel Gear- ing and the various forms of Teeth TURNING In soft and hard Woods and in Ivory-methods of chucking and preparing work for the Lathe IRON WORK The use of the Hammer and Chisel the File and Scraping Tools to produce Surface the Whitworth method Fit- ting Gear Work and General Machinery the use of the Screw Cutting Lathe and Planing Machine Students are encouraged to make for themselves Lathes and small Engines up to five or seven inches diameter of Cylinder They are also made acquainted with the construction of modern Land and Marine Engines and the practical use of the Indicator
