238 MEDICAL DEPARTMENT The year is divided into two Sessions The Winter Sessio will begin October and terminate March 31 The Summe Session will begin May and terminate July 28 No one can be admitted into this Department under the ag of sixteen except by the special permission of the Principal There is short vacation at Christmas extending from th day before Christmas Day to the day after New Year's Da inclusive The Queen's Birthday the Prince of Wales's Birthday Ascension Day and Whit Monday are kept as Holidays The Students of each Class are examined at regular intervals throughout the Session there are also Scholarship and Prize Examinations at the close of each Session Every Student must at the beginning of each Session make application to the Dean for written order for admission to such College Lectures as he requires to Hospital Practice and to whichever Surgical Clinical Course he proposes to attend This order will be exchanged in the Secretary's office for card of admission which must after- wards be signed first by the Dean and secondly by the respective Professors Leave of absence from Lectures or Hospital Practice can be obtained from the Dean of the Medical Department alone to whom in case of sickness or other unavoidable cause of non-attendance written notice is to be immediately sent The attendance of each Student at Lectures is regularly marked At the close of each division of the Winter Ses- sion and at the close of the Summer Session the Dean prepares Report of the attendance general character and conduct of each Student which is forwarded to his Parent or Guardian after being submitted to and signed by the Prin- cipal copy of these reports is kept for future reference The Medical Library is open daily to all Students of this Department for the purposes of study see page 233 they also have the use of the General Library see page 490 limited number of Students are admitted to reside within the College see page 491
