GENERAL LITERATURE AND SCIENCE 129 are sufficiently advanced to enable tbem to take advantage of the College classes The Principal and Professors have the power of sending back for time any who may be considered disqualified for admission The Mathematical subjects are Euclid Books II Arith- metic and Elementary Algebra including simple Equations The examination in Classics will be in Grammar and in passages to be translated from Standard Greek and Latin authors also an easy passage for translation from English into Latin prose II One Exhibition of £50 given out of the Sambrooke Trust and one of £20 given by Freake Esq will be awarded to the Students who pass the best examination in Classics and Mathematics respectively on entering this Department in October 1881 provided they are under seven- teen years of age on the first day of Term See page 143 III The regular work of the Term will begin 011 Thursday October Thursday January 12 and Thursday April 20 on which days all old Students are required to be present at 10 unless special leave of absence is obtained befjreJutnd from the Principal IV The Council require that Half-term's notice be given to the Secretary in writing of the removal of Student from the College This notice must be given before the close of the first half of the Term in which Student is to leave and if not so given the payment of Half-term Fees will be required in 1881-82 the Half-terms will end on November February 20 and May 26 The Students received into this Department are- Matriculated Students or those admitted to the regular and full prescribed course of study Each Candidate for Matriculation must produce testi- momal of good character from his last instructor and when
