68 annual report General and Applied Science Departments But it is hoped that they will practically work together and perhaps that they may hereafter be more closely united In the meanwhile the Council believe for the teaching of Practical Art the system now begun will be among the most perfect in London and perhaps in England The Council have also to announce further gift from the Worshipful Company of Clothworkers who have al- ready done so much for the College To the Exhibitions of 50Z year already given to the Morning Classes they have now added two Exhibitions of 251 year and to the Scholarships and Exhibitions already instituted for the Evening Classes two Prizes of 10Z each for Science Students and 51 for another Workshop Prize In this further liberality for which the Council return their sincere thanks they venture to trace an indication of conviction on the part of the Company that their former gifts have been well bestowed During the past year the College has succeeded after some legal difficulties to reversionary interest of the value of about ΙΟ ΟΟΟΖ bequeathed to it by an old and valued benefactors Sambrooke Esq By the will of the donor it is to be devoted to Scholarships and Exhibitions and the Council hope to be able at once to employ it with much advantage to the College not only in the reward of intellectual excellence but in the assistance of Students who might otherwise be prevented by poverty from enjoying the advantages of the College Course The need of Hall for Resident Students within easy distance of the College still continues to be greatly felt-the accommodation now provided in the College being insufficient to meet the applications made for admission The Council are unable to attempt the erection of such Hall through want of means but they venture to commend this subject to the attention of friends of the College as one to which thei liberality might with great advantage be devoted
