annual report 59 of Ophthalmogy in the College and Ophthalmic Surgeon to King's College Hospital for nearly fifteen years The Council have appointed as his successor Mr Malcolm Macdonald McIIardy Ophthalmic Surgeon to the Royal South London Ophthalmic Hospital and Ophthalmic Registrar in St George's Hospital The vacancy in the office of Demonstrator of Chemistry caused by the resignation of Mr Hartley on his promotion to the Chair of Chemistry in the University of Dublin has been lilled by the promotion of Mr John Miller Thomson who has ably and conscientiously performed the duties of Assistant Demonstrator of Chemistry since the year 1871 Mr George Stillingfleet Johnson former distinguished Medical Student of the College and son of our eminent and esteemed Senior Physician and Professor of Clinical Medicine and gentleman who has already made himself honourably known by his researches in Chemistry has been appointed Assistant Demonstrater of Chemistry Professor Gerald Yeo has to the regret of the Council been obliged to resign his post of Assistant Surgeon at the Hos- pital and to till this vacancy the Council have appointed Mr Cheyne who has already discharged most satisfactorily the duties of Surgical Registrar and House Surgeon In order still further to promote the practical teaching of Physiology and Biology in King's College the Council have recently appointed on the recommendation of Professor Gerald Yeo Mr Groves to be Demonstrator of Physiology and Mr Sedgefield former distinguised Medical Student of King's College to be Demonstrater of Biology -The work of the Evening Class Department calls for little special notice The numbers in the various Classes have slightly diminished perhaps in consequence of the many local centres of similar instruction opened under the Com inittee for the Extension of University Teaching The number is however no less than 477 and the work of the Classes goes on with unabated vigour and success It will be
