CIVIL SERVICE CLASSES 411 Inquiries respecting this Class should be addressed to the Secretary Kings College or to Mr Walke 23 Heaton Road Peckham Rye About 150 Outdoor Customs' Officers are appointed anually on the result of open competitive examinations held in February May August and November Limits of age 19 and 25 About half the successful candidates receive in order of merit appointments in London and Liverpool with salaries commencing at £70 the remaining successful candidates are appointed to other ports with salaries com- mencing at £55 The latter candidates can retain their appointments and compete at any subsequent competition for appointments in London or Liverpool After Three Years' service Outdoor Customs Officers are eligible to compete for Examining Officerships and Gauger- ships Examining Officers and Gaugers of the 2nd Class rise by annual increments of £7 105 from £110 to £220 per year those of the 1st Class by £10 from £230 to £300 There are higher appointments with salaries ranging to £1 000 Out- door Customs' Officers are also promoted for business capacity and steady conduct without being subjected to competitive examination VIII NAVAL ENGINEER STUDENTS MR WALKE The class meets on Wednesday and Saturday Evenings from 45 to 45 and on two additional evenings per period from to 30 Fee for the course of three periods until the Examination in May £3 155 for two periods 55$ for one period 305 Each period consists of weeks The subjects of examination are -iVrithmetic including Tots highest marks attainable 300 Writing from Dictation 100 English Composition 100 Grammar 150 French 150 Geography 100 Algebra 300 Euclid first six books 300
