406 CIVIL SERVICE CLASSES Class Book of Geography Nelson Is Od Philips' First School Atlas Curtis's Outlines of English History Simpkin 6d Ross's Outlines of English History Simpkiu Hd Student's Hume Murray 6d for those who have ample time or who are well acquainted with the subject such students not requiring Ross King's College Tots 6d to be had at the College by Students only Inquiries respecting this class should be addressed to the Secretary King's College or to Mr Braginton Park Villas Upton Men Clerkships -Candidates for these Clerkships which are mostly in London must be between 17 and 20 Men Clerks rise by triennial increments of £ from £80 to £200 in some offices and from £90 to £250 in others The most competent of them receive extra pay not exceeding £100 They may after ten years' service be promoted exceptionally to the Higher Division They will be eligible for the open competitions for the Higher Division at any time if between the limits of age prescribed for it and the upper limit is extended in favour of persons already in the service Outport Clerkships -The term Outport is applied to all the Ports of the United Kingdom where there is Customs Establishment excepting London alone The limits of age for Second Class Clerks are 17 and 20 They rise from £70 by £5 annually for Four Years and then by £10 annually to £200 Many Second Class Clerks have special allowances in addition to the above service salary They are eligible for promotion without examination to- First Class Clerk- ships which rise from £220 by £15 annually to £400 and Outport Collectorships whose value ranges from £200 to £500 and still higher First Class Clerkships and Collector- ships are filled wholly by promotion of Second Class Clerks and are together nearly as numerous as the Second Class Clerkships Thus in the Outport Clerical Establishment there are nearly as many persons with salaries of £200 and above as with salaries of less than £200 From fifteen to twenty vacancies will probably occur each year
