MEDICAL DEPARTMENT 285 It is the duty of the Regular attendants and in their absence or engagement of the Non-regular attendants to go immediately on being summoned to all cases of labour occurring during their respective period of office Every Student will be held personally responsible for every case that has been consigned to him Every attendant must visit his patients for four con- secutive days after delivery and continue his attendance as frequently and as long as the urgency of the case may require Every attendant must fill up the patient7s card and deliver it to the Resident-Accoucheur within week after labour When any deviation from normal labour or con- valescence occurs concise report must be sent in to the Resident-Accoucheur within fortnight after his cessation of attendance In cases of labour lasting more than six hours after rupture of the membranes in cases in which the pulse rises to 100 per minute in all cases of premature labour in cases in which the placenta is not expelled within half an hour after delivery and in all cases of doubt or difficulty the attendant must communicate at once with the Resident-Accoucheur No attendant must use any obstetric instrument ad- minister ergot of rye or chloroform or introduce his hand into the uterus without the sanction of the Resident- Accoucheur With the view of preventing as much as possible the risk of conveying septic disease every attendant must provide himself with bottle containing in 20 solution of carbolic acid with which he must wash his hands before proceeding to labour He must also carry with him phial of carbolic acid for the purposes of lubrication 10 No attendant whether Regular or Non-regular can dissect or frequent the post-mortem theatre 11 No Regular attendant can hold the appointment of Suri eon Dresser or Physician's Clerk The Clerks of the
