196 APPLIED SCIENCES Students wishing to claim this advantage must make personal application to the Secretary at the time of entrance to this Department and if the claim is allowed they will be reckoned as Fourth Term Students In either of these cases however the Candidate for the Associateship must pay the fees for one Course of Photography in addition to the regular fees for six Terms III Must produce Certificate of proficiency in study as evinced by either Special Certificate of Honour Two Prizes One Prize and four Certificates of Merit Such Professional distinction after leaving King's Col- lege as shall be deemed sufficient by the Principals and Professors IV Must also obtain Certificate of competent know- ledge in at least four of the subjects taught by lectures in this Department of which Mathematics shall be one Must apply on printed form to be obtained in the College office to the Dean of the Department not later than the 1st of June stating the claims and qualifications which he then possesses An Associate cannot be elected Scholar or obtain Prize in the Department in which he gained his Associateship For the privileges of an Associate see page 528 but an Associate of this Department is not free to attend the Laboratories or the Workshop without payment of the usual fees
