56 ANNUAL REPORT who have been associated with Dr Guy deeply regret his retirement feeling that they have lost most conscientious painstaking and able colleague In filling up the vacancy thus occasioned in the Chair of Hygiene the Council have had much pleasure in electing as Professor Dr Charles Kelly former Student of high die- tinction and one who has already done good service to the College and Hospital as Curator of the Museum Pathological Registrar and Assistant Physician The subject of Hygiene is becoming of great importance and it has been arranged to extend the scope of instruction in it The Council feel that in Dr Kelly they have secured the services of one who will do it full justice The Council have also just received with much regret the resignation of Professor Garrod of the Chair of Comparative Anatomy in consequence of ill-health Professor Garrod was an able teacher as well as worker in Science his loss will be much felt at the College and his place difficult to fill -The work of the Evening Classes has gone on with the usual assiduity and success during the past year and the number of Students remains almost exactly as before In relation to the movement which has this year being going on for the "Extension of University Teaching" to those engaged in London in various forms of business the Council feel with much satisfaction that this is in great degree the work which King's College has been successfully doing in its Evening Classes now for many years and to many hundreds or even thousands of Students While they will be glad to see now new centres of usefulness created for this important work they at the same time believe that it may be carried out in very great measure by simple use of the machinery already existing and in efficient action at King's College and elsewhere The Council have great pleasure in announcing that the Worshipful Company of Clothworkers have added to their benefactions to the College by the establishment of Scholar-
