annual report 55 -In the Medical Department there is most satis- factory increase of Students from 121 to 160 The number of new Students remains however about the same being 47 this year against 46 last year The increase in the new Students would probably have been greater but for the increase in the general fee made in this as in most of the other medical schools of London to the extent of 25 per cent The Medical Department being now in high state of efficiency as regards its Staff and the tone of the Students having been in every respect very satisfactory the Dean ventures again to believe that although the number of Students has considerably increased during the last three years further increase may be confidently looked for next year It is especially satisfactory to notice that the number of Students entering the Medical Department from the School is yearly increasing-a result in great measure due to the persevering exertions and cordial co-operation of' tbe Head Master with the Officers of the Medical Department The following Students may be mentioned as having obtained distinctions at the University of London during the last year At the First Examination McDonnell Dennis Honours in Physiology At the Second Examination WirxcocKS Frederick First Class Honours in Obstetric Medi- cine and Forensic Medicine and Honours in Medicine The only change that has taken place in the Staff has been caused by the retirement of Dr Guy who after having served the College and Hospital for forty years faithfully and with great ability first as Professor of Forensic Medicine and subsequently as Physician to the Hospital Dean of the Medical Department and Professor of Hygiene has been compelled from failing health to give up all active work All
