THE SCHOOL 395 The Lower School is intended to prepare boys for the Middle and Upper School and to ground them thoroughly in elementary work The system of instruction is so arranged as to be adapted for boys of very early age and to supersede the necessity of preparatory training in other schools The course of study is varied in such manner by the intermixture of Drawing Writing and Drilling that the boys are not fatigued by their work while they are duly classified according to their age capacities and attainments All the boys learn Drawing and all are regularly drilled Special attention is paid to Writing and Arithmetic is taught in several progressive classes of moderate numbers each class being under the care of separate master If mathematics The following is the course of progressive instruction in Mathematics Lower First Glass Arithmetic -First Four Eules Simple and Com- pound and Tables II Upper First Class Arithmetic -Reduction and Compound Rules Tables and Backwork III Lower Second Class Arithmetic -Vulgar Fractions Elemmtary Simple Proportion and Backwork
