362 CIVIL SERVICE classes King's College Tots 6c to be had at the College by Students only Hours of Attendance -5 45 to 45 on Saturday evenings and on two additional evenings each period from to 30 Fees -16s 6d per period of six weeks or 27s 6d for two periods Subjects of Examination Arithmetic including Tots highest marks attainable 300 English Composition 200 Orthography 200 Handwriting 200 Inquiries respecting this Class should be addressed to the Seeretary King's College or to Mr Walke 23 Heaton Road Peck ham Rye Limits of age 19 to 25 Examinations are held four times year about February May August and November About 150 appointments are made annually The com- mencing salary at London and Liverpool where more than half the total outdoor establishment is stationed is £70 At these ports there are 330 persons receiving from £110 to £220 per year and 148 higher salaries ranging to £1000 At other ports the salaries are lower the commencing salary is however in no case less than £55 All the higher appoint- ments are filled by promotion from the subordinate grades After Three Years' Service Outdoor Customs' Officers are eligible to compete for Examining Officerships and Gauger- ships Examining Officers and Gaugers of the 2nd Class rise by annual increments of £7 10s from £110 to £220 those of the 1st Class by £10 from £230 to £300 There are higher appointments filled by selection with salaries ranging to £ 000 Outdoor Customs' Officers are also promoted for business capacity and steady conduct without being subjected to competitive examination NAVAL ENGINEER STUDENTS mr walke Until Wednesday December 31st 1879 Students will be received in Class On that date the Special Class will be re-opened It will meet on Wednesday and Saturday
