CIVIL SERVICE CLASSES 357 MEN CLERKSHIPS Lower Division op the Civil Service mr braginton and mr hinks Each course of preparation begins three weeks after the preceding examination and lasts until the following examina- tion Examinations may be expected every three months Fees for the course of ten weeks £2 7s 6d for the second part of the course beginning month later £1 15s The subjects of examination the same as those formerly prescribed for Clerkships Class are Handwriting highest marks attainable 400 Orthography 400 Arithmetic 400 Copying MS to test accuracy 200 Indexing or Docketing 200 Digesting Returns into Summaries 200 English Composition 200 Geography 200 English History 200 Book-keeping 200 Students joining this class should at least be acquainted with Vulgar and Decimal Fractions Proportion and Interest Those who are desirous of preparing for Man Clerkship and are not yet well acquainted with these Rules are recom- mended to attend Class or Class IV in the meantime This class is divided into two sections-the first section to contain the more advanced students The course of pre- paration is similar in both sections and students may prepare for the next examination in either On joining the class all students will be placed in the second section but they will be moved to the first immediately they are found sufficiently advanced Both sections meet on Wednesday evenings from 45 to and on Saturday evenings from 30 to Books required -Brook Smith's Arithmetic Macmillan 4s 6d Hunter's Self Instruction in Book-Keeping re- quired by beginners Longmans 2s Hamilton and Ball's Book-Keeping required hy advanced students Macmillan 2s
