308 evening classes to 8-Tuesday and Friday Composition class for the culli- vation of English style Subjects will be given for short Essays which will be examined and corrected by the Lecturer As this Class is subsiduary to the Literature Class the subjects suggested will be topics connected with the Lectures to Tuesday-Lectures on Shakespeare's "Othello" and Henry and the Vision of Piers the Plowman to Friday-Lectures on the Literary History of Englai during the sixteenth and part of the seventeenth centuries including the Re- nascence the Reformation the Drama and the rise of Inductive Science Separate Prizes are given for Literature and Composition Prize is also offered to Members of the Literature Class by the "Early English Text" Society In awarding this Prize account will be taken both of the results of the Examination in Literature and of the marks gained for an English Essay The subject of the English Essay for 1879 will be Tragedy This Essay will be the test of distinction in the Composition Class but competitors for the Society's Prize need not necessarily be Members of that Class The Essays must be sent in to the Lecturer on or before February 28 1879 11 ENGLISH HISTORY Days and Hour of Attendance-Tuesday and Friday from to Lectures to VI -Recapitulation of earlier History Before and after the Norman Conquest Wars of the Roses Tudor Period Stuart Period till the death of Charles VII to IX -The Commonwealth and the Restore- tion
