ANNUAL REPORT 63 From this list two facts are brought into prominence An increasing number of boys are still offering them- selves for the London University Matriculation Lxamina- tion Indeed the Class specially composed of boys pre- paring for this Examination was never fuller than it is now and the fact that every Candidate who offered himself from the School at tbe January Examination of the year obtained First Class speaks well for the efficiency of the teaching they received from Mr Belcher who has charge of this Class larger number of boys are coming forward for entrance in the Applied Science and the Medical Department of the College and on entering they more than hold their own among their contemporaries The Matriculation Class has been and is becoming more and more most useful Institution with view to training boys for the Medical Department The Council are happy to receive from tbe Principal and Head Master very satisfactory reports of the general conduct regularity and industry of the students and the boys of the School II -The Council have but little to record of special interest during the past year They have first to announce with deep regret the death of two highly valued members of their own body Mr Robert Cheere for thirty-seven years member of the Committee for eight years Treasurer of the Hospital and for twelve years member of the Council and Mr Benjamin Shaw who had been member of the Council for five years By the will of Mr Cheere sum of 000 was bequeathed to the College and the same amount to tbe Hospital In token of respect to the memory of Mr Cheere and with view to the benefit of the Hospital in which he was so affectionately interested number of his friends raised sum of 000 to be devoted to Convalescent Fund or
