ANNUAL REPORT 55 This number is still under the average of former years although the entries of new Students have gradually increased since 1874 But the marked decrease of new Students in that year due to cause which has now passed away still affects the total number of those in attendance The Dean reports that from the numerous inquiries he has received in reference to the Department in the last few months he has every reason to hope for marked increase of new Students in the present year The following may be mentioned among the distinctions gained by Students during the past year University of London At the Preliminary Scientific Examination Macdonald Denis Honours in Zoology At the First Examination Baddeley Charles Edward Honours in Anatomy At the Examination Duncan Andrew Gold Medal During the last year the following changes and additions have taken place in the Staff of the College and Hospital Dr Duffin who for sixteen years has filled the offices of Assistant Physician and Physician to King's College Hospital with singular earnestness and devotion to his duties has been appointed to the Chair of Pathological Anatomy vacated by the election of Dr Lionel Beale to the Chair of Medicine At the Hospital the Council in order still further to add to its efficiency and usefulness have increased the Surgical Staff by apppointing Dr Urban Pritchard who has already been connected with the College for five years as Demon- strator of Physiology and Pathological Registrar and who has been distinguished for his researches into the Anatomy of the Ear to the new Office of Aural Surgeon
