MEDICAL DEPARTMENT 205 tion at the University of London The Class attends for an hour twice in each week during the Winter and Summer Sessions when instruction is given in the several subjects comprised in the Special Preliminary Science Course See page 211 23 The Dean of the Medical Department The Dean is appointed by the Council on the recommen- dation of the Professors and is their representative upon all occasions He is assisted in his work by the Sub-Dean The Dean or the Sub-Dean on bis behalf is in attendance from after the 24th of September and during the Medical Sessions for two hours every day except Saturday for the purpose of receiving and advising Students signing Cards of Admission Certificates and Schedules attending to the discipline of the Department and generally conducting under the Principal all the business connected therewith All Letters on the subject of the Department should be addressed to the Dean Cards of admission to Lectures can be obtained from the Secretary's oflfice only by the Dean's written order and when obtained must be signed by him previously to being taken to the Professors All Certificates must be signed by the Dean previously to being signed by the Professors 24 King's College Hospital King's College Hospital is situated in the densely-inhabited district which lies between the two great thoroughfares of Holborn and the Strand It is in the parish of St Clement Danes but receives Patients in large numbers from the sur- rounding parishes of St Giles St Mary-le-Strand St Andrew Holborn and St George Bloomsbury as well as from the populous parish of Lambeth It is also very largely resorted to by the poor from every part of London from the suburban
