198 MEDICAL DEPARTMENT to the use of the Microscope and the various methods necessary for histological research Each Student is required himself to perform the manipulations necessary for the study of the normal tissues of the animal body and must himself prepare mount examine and describe specimens under the immediate supervision of the Professor and the Demon- strators The Students are also demonstrated and practically in- structed in the mode of application of the most important physiological instruments and taught how personally to make use of those which may be made applicable to clinical research Every Student must provide himself with some of the minor accessory instruments such as glass slides cover glasses needles scissors scalpels &c All the other ap- paratus including the microscope is supplied in the Labo- ratory Student may use his own microscope subject to the approval of the Professor of Physiology The charge for use of the Laboratory apparatus is in each case 11 Is Material is supplied aud every assistance given to such Students as wish to make for themselvss cabinet of permanent microscopic preparations Every facility is afforded to any Student who wishes to work in the Histological or Physiological Laboratories aud special arrangements may be made for original research or private investigation on application to the Professor of Physiology Practical Biology -During the Winter Session Michael- mas and Lent Terms Class is held in tbe above subject in the Physiological Laboratory In this the Students are taught and exercised in the various methods of investigation into the Structure and Life History of the lower forms of animal and vegetable life It is intended that this Course shall fully comprehend all the theoretical knowledge and manual dexterity required for the various scientific examina- tions of the London University For more extensive study of the tissues &c Students are recommended to take out the preceding Course of Practical Physiology
