126 general literature and science by the same Student and are tenable with any other King's College Scholarship VI The payments will be made in three Terminal instal- ments at the end of each Term beginning with the Michael- mas Term after the Election provided that the Scholar shall have either become an Associate of King's College London or shall during the preceding Term have attended lectures as Matriculated Student of the College or as Pupil of the School or shall be in residence as Matriculated Student at the University of Oxford Cambridge or Durham In the two last cases certificate of residence and good conduct will be required each Term from the Dean or Tutor VII The next examination for the English Scholarship will take place on Thursday April 25 1878 and for the Literature Scholarship on Friday April 26 The names of all Candi- dates must be sent in writing to the Secretary and the fees for the Easter Term paid before two o'clock on Thursday April 18 after which hour no name will be received VIII The following will be the Subjects of Examination in 1878 Scholarship for Modern History English History -The Popish Plot to the Death of Anne 1678-1714 Read -Hale's Fall of the Stuarts and Morris's Age of Anne in the Epochs of History Series Macaulay's History Stanhope's Reign of Anne French History -Reign of Lewis XIV from his Majority 1660-1714 Read -Guizot's History of France Vol IV chaps xliv -1 Michelet's Histoirede France Vol xiii xiv
