ANNUAL REPORT 65 The Council last year in reporting the temporary discour- agement of the proposal for affiliation of the College to the old Universities added that they could not regard the question as finally closed The expectation implied in these words has been realized The subject has again been taken up in Oxford without any further action on the part of King's College Conditions for the proposed affiliation of Colleges have been brought before the Hebdomadal Council and have been approved by them and are to be submitted to Congregation early in May next The progress thus made towards favourable solution of the question is highly satis- factory The principle involved being new one its intro- duction may naturally cause some hesitation and undergo some criticism But believing it to be sound and looking for much advantage from its practical development both to the College and to the University itself the Council trust to see at no distant date the proposed arrangements sanctioned by the authorities at Oxford The Council have since the last Court added the following names to the list of Honorary Fellows William Paul Swain Formerly Student Author of Jacksonian Prize Essay 1865 now Surgeon to the Royal Albert Hospital Devonport William Kitchen Parker Formerly Student now Hunterian Professor at Royal College of Surgeons Hknrt Morley Formerly Student now Professor of English at University College London James Fitzjames Stephen Formerly Student Late Legal Member of Council of the Government of India Henry Richards Luard Formerly Student Fellow of Trinity College Cambridge Wrangler 1847 Now Registrar of the University William Clark Formerly Student John George Fawcus Formerly Pupil School Fellow of Trinity College Cambridge 29th Wrangler 12th in First Class Classics and Senior Chancellor's Medallist 1871 Samuel Cartwright For 31 years Surgeon-Dentist of and for 14 years Professor of Dental Surgery
