annual report 57 are preparing for Government Competitive Examinations and for the Examinations of the University of London and considerable number of gentlemen already engaged in the work of teaching For this last class of Students arrange- ments have been made for practical instruction and special Examinations in the Art and Methods of Teaching In this Department the Gilbart Lectures on Banking delivered by Professor Leone Levi have again been most successful having attracted large numbers of Students from most of the leading Banking Establishments and having received proof of the interest taken in them by the Heads of these Establishments in liberal gifts of Prizes JS1-The School shows an increase of numbers to 553 besides still borne on the School roll but temporarily absent from sickness The work of the School proceeds with unabated energy and success and the Council find proof of its high reputation in the excellent Candidates who from time to time present themselves for the vacant Masterships The Council announce with regret the death in the past year of Wattez who after service of forty-three years sent in bis resignation in the year 1874-5 and to whom the Council presented sum of £250 in testimony of appreciation of his long and faithful services and of Isnard who has been Assistant French Master for many years The Rev Carte has also been obliged by seriou3 illness to request leave of absence for two Terms Mr Wright has resigned his Mastership as family circumstances obliged him to leave London Mr Ε Scallon has been appointed to higher and more lucrative post elsewhere In consequence of these changes the Rev Cerisier has been appointed Junior French Master while Mr Ellis Β Α of Trinity College Cambridge Mr Judd late Scholar of Trinity College Cambridge and Mr Willcocks Β Α Exhibitioner of Exeter College Oxford formerly pupil in the School have been elected to fill the vacant Masterships in the Lower School
