178 APPLIED SCIENCES This Medal is awarded Annually to the Student of the Second or Third Year who shall most distinguish himself at the Midsummer Examination in the subjects of Divinity Mathematics Mechanics and Chemistry In case of equality preference will be given to the Senior Student mtt GBaston ptt An Annual Prize consisting of Free Admission as Pupil or Apprentice to the Engineering Works of the Donors is given by Messrs Eastons and Anderson and is open to all Matriculated Students of this Department who have com- pleted their full three-years' course Conditions The Prize offered shall be called the "James Easton Prize Only Matriculated Students who have passed through the complete three-years' course shall be eligible The Prize shall be for general proficiency and regularity of attendance throughout the three years that is attendance at all the prescribed lectures workshop chemical laboratory drawing surveying &c More weight is to be attached to work well kept up during each term than to proficiency at the examinations it being one object of the Prize offered to counteract the baleful tendency to "cramming" for examinations Professional papers read before any scientific society in the College or elsewhere to be considered Preference to be given to Students knowing one or more modern languages The winners of the Prize will be entitled to all the pri- vileges of pupils paying the full premium of Five Hundred
