176 APPLIED SCIENCES Candidates for the Exhibition of 1876 must send in their names and subjects on form to be obtained in the College Office before One o'clock on Saturday September 30 to the Secretary King's College London The next Examination will begin at 10 on Wednesday October utt tttoort Exhibitions Sir Joseph Whitworth Bart has founded for an experi- mental period of four years THREE EXHIBITIONS to be competed for annually in King's College London These Ex- hibitions will be open to young men who being possessed of certain measure of mechanical aptitude and of dexterity in the use of tools are desirous of receiving that training in the principles of pure and applied Science which is necessary for success in the competition for the Whitworth Scholarships The next competition for Three Exhibitions will take place in June 1877 REGULATIONS Candidates must not be less than sixteen or more than eighteen on the 1st of October 1877 preliminary qualifying Examination will be held on Saturday June 1877 at 10 in English Dictation and Composition Arithmetic as far as Decimals inclusive and the elements of Mechanical Drawing No Candidate who fails to satisfy the Examiners in these subjects will be allowed to proceed further This Examination will be held either at King's College London or at one of the Science Schools in the Town where the Candidate lives provided the necessary arrangements can be made Having passed the qualifying Examination Candidates will be required to undergo practical Examination at the College in the use of Tools This Examination will include
