general literature and science 29 Scholarship for The English Language and Literature History of English Literature from 1400 to the death of Henry VIII Chaucer's Canterbury Tales Clarendon Selection XIII Jfreake anu otijer entrance lExfjitntions One Exhibition of £40 two of £30 all given by the College and one of £20 given by Freake Esq will be awarded to the Students who pass the best examination on entering this Department in October 1876 provided they are under seventeen years of age on the first day of Term The Examination will be in the following subjects Latin and Greek Translation and Composition Mathematics Arithmetic Algebra and Plane Trigonometry ii Euclid Geometrical Conies and the easier parts of Analytical Geometry Outlines of English History to the end of the Eighteenth Century Shakespeare's King John These Exhibitions will be awarded either for excellence in one branch of the Examination Classics Mathematics or English or for general merit but will only be given if really creditable amount of knowledge giving promise of future excellence is displayed The next Examination will begin on Wednesday October at 10
