ANNUAL REPORT 55 The Council feel that they have lost in Professor Rymer Jones Professor who has always taken great interest'il the prosperity of King's College and whose eloquence as lecturer and skill as teacher will always be remembered with gratitude by his pupils The Council have had great pleasure in retaining Professor Rymer Jones's name in con- nection with King's College by electing him an Honorary Fellow Dr Rutherford who filled the Chair of Physiology with such distinguished ability and success for five years has also been obliged to resign on his appointment to the Chair of the Institutes of Medicine in the University of Edinburgh At present no appointment lias been made to the vacant Chair of Physiology and the Council have gratefully to acknowledge the prompt and valuable assistance rendered to the College during the past Winter Se3sion by Dr Beale and Dr Ferrier who have between them undertaken the whole Course of Lectures ou Physiology The Chair of Materia Medica and Therapeutics has been filled by the appointment of Dr Evan Buchanan Baxter former distinguished Student of the College whose name is already associated with good work in Therapeutics and who has very efficiently discharged the duties of Medical Tutor since the year 1871 To the Chair of Comparative Anatomy the Council have appointed Alfred Henry Garrod formerly highly distinguished as Student of the College and subsequently at the University of Cambridge who has already attained much distinction for his researches in Comparative Anatomy The office of Medical Tutor vacant by the promotion of Dr Baxter has been filled by the election of Dr Philpot and from his distinguished career as Student the Council believe that he will discharge the duties of the appointment with ability zeal and efficiency During the past year Dr Urban Pritchard resigned the Demonstratorship of Practical Phy- siology and the Council have since appointed him Curator of the Anatomical Museum and Pathological Registrar to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Dr Kelly which was alluded to in the last report The Council take this oppor-
